179	National Science Foundation Summer Research Program in Solid State Chemistry and Materials	06-JUN-2008	This is a nine-week summer program in solid state chemistry research for undergraduate and college faculty, under the direction of a recognized authority in the field. A stipend plus a housing supplement and travel expenses are paid for all participants by the NSF program. The program starts with tutorial sessions at the University of Oregon (6/186/22). After the tutorial the participants will travel to a university or industrial laboratory of their choice for a eight-week research program, and will then reconvene at Oregon State University for a final symposium (8/178/18) before the trip home.

182	Summer Research Opportunities in Advanced Materials Research Laboratories at Virginia Tech	31-JAN-2007	You will be working with a faculty sponsor and at least one graduate student mentor as you conduct your research. Your graduate student mentor will guide you on a day-to-day basis, but you should feel free to call on your faculty sponsor as required. 231	The Biological Nanostructures Facility, at the Molecular Foundry, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory	30-MAY-2008	We are investigating new bio-inspired materials that have properties halfway between plastics and proteins. Peptoids are a class of sequence-specific polymers that can fold into specific shapes like proteins, but they are cheaper to make and resist degradation. We are investigating new chemical methods for the synthesis of these materials, as well as looking at their self-assembly into nanostructures, and the use of these nanostructures for drug delivery.
